Untitled Poem

by Rob Hulson

I wish the moon you could have seen
Last night with me, and its serene
Majestic brightness shining out,
Revealing dark, removing doubt
Of what is lying in my way:
A tripping stone, or safe, soft clay
With which my feet can safely tread
And see the goal that lies ahead.

The moon, itself, gives off no light
And yet it rises, shining bright,
Reflecting rays not of its own
But from the sun. And so is shown
The beauty of our satellite
When raised in splendor in the night,
Its every orifice made plain,
Providing light from which we gain.

The sun reveals the beauty of
The moon, and therefore far above
All other sources of our light
We thank the sun. For day and night
Are both, alike, lit by the sun
Though, seeming from two sources one
Is no more valued than its match…
Yet what we truly know is that
One is the source, the other a
Reflection of a heated ray.

So if you love the beauteous moon
Then thank the sun, because its noon,
When upside down, provides the light
In which we walk during the night.

When Christ, exalted, in His place
Enthroned above all of the race
Of angels. creatures, and of men,
We’ll find that then, and only then,
When He is first in our pursuits,
That we can eat the choicest fruits
Of all His gifts and not become
Idolaters who trade the sum
Of all His glory for someone
Just like themselves.

So let us praise
The name of Christ and as we raise
Him in our hearts, let us resist
Of holding tightly precious gifts
From which we will not loose our grips
Lest in our hearts a dark eclipse
Should blind our eyes to His great worth
But let the change of our rebirth
So take His gifts with joyful heart
And dive in deep like thirsty hart
As we partake in holy joy
The satisfaction of our God
Who from His own withholds no good.

Both of you're last two posts were great. I haven't been spending as much time online, I haven't read all of your two posts on "risk taking love", but these two were really refreshing to read. Thanks.

Lovely.
