Innocent until proven guilty

This site is not a great source for political commentary. It’s not something I’ve ever really wanted to get into (even though I’ve got convictions). But I just read this and have no other outlet to express my frustration.

Yahoo! News: Bush, Cheney Urged to Apologize for Aides

WASHINGTON - Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid said Sunday that President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney should apologize for the actions of their aides in the CIA leak case. Reid, D-Nev., also said Bush should pledge not to pardon any aides convicted as a result of the investigation into the disclosure of CIA officer Valerie Plame’s identity. “There has not been an apology to the American people for this obvious problem in the White House,” Reid said.

Alleged actions, Senator Reid. While I don’t know the whole story because I’m not privy to the information, calling for someone to apologize for someone else’s alleged wrongdoing is beyond reason. Throwing back to my childhood, if my brother lost one of his toys and and he accused me of hiding it for myself, I wouldn’t ever be expected to apologize until it was proven that I did hide it. You can’t and shouldn’t apologize for something you’ve been accused of. That’s like admitting guilt. That’s not how things work.

Politicians puzzle me.
